What LUCAMP will do
What LUCAMP will do
The objectives of the LUCAMP initiative are met by 7 research project lines Project 1: Whole exome sequencing of DNA from Danish metabolic cases (visceral obesity, type 2 diabetes and hypertension in each case) and from a matched group of Danish healthy individuals. Discovered coding region variants are applied to large-scale case-control studies and investigations of association to quantitative metabolic traits Project 2: Metagenomics of the human intestinal tract in patients with common metabolic disorders Project 3: Validation of disease-associated proteins and characterisation of involved cellular pathways as novel targets for intervention Project 4: Baseline physiology studies and studies of the acute responses to nutritional loads or exercise loads or selected drugs in carriers of gene variants conferring major risk of common metabolic disorders Project 5: Personalised interventions based upon discoveries of novel and validated risk alleles with major impact on metabolic disease pathogenesis at the individual level Project 6: Clinical studies in patients with common metabolic disorders and who have altered gut microbiome profiles Project 7: Translation of variations in genomics and metagenomics into ongoing observational studies and clinical trials to predict, treat and prevent common metabolic and cardiovascular disorders
